{"id":977,"date":"2013-04-25T21:03:08","date_gmt":"2013-04-26T02:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=977"},"modified":"2013-11-02T23:53:40","modified_gmt":"2013-11-03T04:53:40","slug":"scrappy-split-16-and-indecision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=977","title":{"rendered":"Scrappy Split-16 and Indecision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although I&#8217;ve<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Border-Auditions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-972\" alt=\"Border Auditions\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Border-Auditions.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"1311\" \/><\/a> made many quilts through the years, sometimes I still run into a wall when it comes to making decisions.\u00a0 While finishing the piecing on this scrappy Split-16 quilt, I&#8217;ve been very undecided which border to attach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As you can see, I&#8217;ve already sewn narrow strips of various greens but I thought I&#8217;d like to include an additional pieced border.\u00a0 First I designed and stitched a brick border, using strips left from another project.\u00a0 I loved making this border and it was my first Leader\/Ender experience.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t like how it looks on this busy quilt top.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve decided to use it as an accent strip on the mottled\u00a0 forest green back of the quilt.\u00a0 There, it will be gorgeous!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next, I decided to try my hand making a braid border.\u00a0 Once again, the strips were left from a previous project.\u00a0 After sewing enough braid to encompass the quilt, I decided visually, it didn&#8217;t work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Good grief!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After much thought, frustration, and hair pulling, I&#8217;ve decided to use a plain strip border (yawn!). With the busy-ness of the quilt body, it&#8217;s probably the only choice that will suit me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;m encouraging Bob to design a custom quilting pattern for the border.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see if he comes through.\u00a0 Otherwise, I&#8217;ll do something more traditional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;m looking forward to finally getting this top sandwiched and in the frame.\u00a0 Quilting it will be a perfect summer project when it&#8217;s too hot to spend time outside.\u00a0 It will finish queen-plus size.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The next big indecision will be which machine pieced quilt top to make next.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll continue hand piecing my batik-and-black Tumbling Stars top until I decide.\u00a0 I have plenty to keep me busy!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Although I&#8217;ve made many quilts through the years, sometimes I still run into a wall when it comes to making decisions.\u00a0 While finishing the piecing on this scrappy Split-16 quilt, I&#8217;ve been very undecided which border to attach.
