about it, it&#8217;s been a<\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HOT<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">summer<\/span>.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is the warmest we&#8217;ve ever seen in Grapeland since moving to the area 20 years ago.\u00a0 The air conditioner never stops roaring and the electric meter zings.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">I fear our next bill!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This picture is of the remote readout for the thermometer mounted in the shade overlooking our garden area.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While temperatures have been <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HOT<\/span><\/strong>, I&#8217;ve had the opportunity to learn a few things:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s important to know, <\/span>okra is crazy!\u00a0 While all other plants are dead or dying, with only a little water once or twice a week, okra flourishes\u2026 and when okra is happy, grasshoppers are happy.\u00a0 Those plant munchers are large enough to filet!\u00a0 I harvest <span style=\"color: #000000;\">(<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">okra,<\/span> <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">not grasshoppers)<\/span> each morning before the heat becomes unbearable.\u00a0 Gooood eating!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Don\u2019t leave 2 liter bottles of carbonated drinks in the car through a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span> afternoon.\u00a0 Bob went to the grocery store and purchased a dozen sodas (to feed Jake\u2019s fizz addiction) along with a bunch of groceries.\u00a0 When he returned home, we unloaded the car, but we got tired and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span> so left the drinks to be brought inside later.\u00a0 MISTAKE!\u00a0\u00a0 The bottles got <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HOT<\/span><\/strong>, pressurized and the containers split. \u00a0We\u2019re so lucky they didn\u2019t explode or leak all over the car.\u00a0 Not noticing what had happened, we brought them inside where they started to hiss and seep.\u00a0 Lesson learned!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some of our super special wireless Internet equipment is heat sensitive.\u00a0 We have 8 customers (socked in by pine trees) which require special wireless equipment for delivery.\u00a0 Each day, when the thermometer rises to 104\u00b0 without a breeze, that equipment shuts down.\u00a0 I have no clue how <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span> it is on the tower where the equipment is mounted but it\u2019s obviously too <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 Each evening as the temperature drops, the equipment works again and there seems nothing will fix this problem except cooler weather.\u00a0 Fortunately, the customers would rather suffer the minor inconvenience than lose our service.\u00a0 Most of these same customers are suffering water and food shortages for their livestock so a little downtime for Internet is minor by comparison.\u00a0 &lt;shrug&gt;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We have free-range dogs as does everyone in our area.\u00a0 Lolita&#8217;s and Coalie&#8217;s original owners live across the road on two large properties.\u00a0 Both dogs enjoy visiting their old homes for a little while each day and the old owners encourage it.\u00a0 The dogs also enjoy swimming in the neighbors\u2019 ponds.\u00a0 Lately, Coalie (Newfoundland mix) stays inside (too <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span> for his arctic blood) as does Nugget (he seldom treks anymore \u2013 getting old).\u00a0 Lolita, with her bubbly personality and slick fur, doesn\u2019t mind the heat so much and loves visiting Marie, who spoils her with tasty treats and a welcoming lap.\u00a0 Recently Lolita returned home limping and whining.\u00a0 After checking her paws, I discovered she had blistered her pads while crossing the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>HOT<\/strong><\/span> road.\u00a0 OUCH!\u00a0 I mentioned it to Marie so now she sometimes drives over and picks up Lolita for an afternoon visit and lets her walk back home in the evening.\u00a0 Sometimes Jake drops her off so she still gets to socialize.\u00a0 Yep, she\u2019s spoiled!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After experiencing 110\u00b0 temperatures for several days, 103\u00b0 seems downright pleasant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><br
