{"id":567,"date":"2011-07-14T18:30:39","date_gmt":"2011-07-14T23:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=567"},"modified":"2013-05-29T15:03:25","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:03:25","slug":"not-worth-a-hill-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=567","title":{"rendered":"Not worth a hill of&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_568\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 276px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hill-o-peas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-568 \" title=\"hill o peas\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/hill-o-peas.jpg\" width=\"276\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hill of Peas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In my youth, I once heard a least favorite aunt claim I&#8217;d never be worth a hill of beans.\u00a0 That may very well be true but here&#8217;s proof I&#8217;m definitely worth a hill of peas!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thus far, each day this week I&#8217;ve gone out to the garden before morning coffee and picked peas.\u00a0 During the heat of each day, I shell them while watching videos and by evening, they are washed, blanched and packed.\u00a0 As of today, there are 41 quarts of various fresh peas in the freezer.\u00a0 Thank goodness we like them!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I was able to pressure can 4 quarts of tomato\/okra gumbo this week.\u00a0 Sadly the tomato crop has now succumbed to the heat though the okra plants are producing nicely.\u00a0 Tonight I&#8217;ll make a batch of fried battered okra to accompany our dinner.\u00a0 There&#8217;s nothing tastier!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Soon, I&#8217;ll be freezing, pickling and canning okra for winter enjoyment.\u00a0 This Southern family likes okra any way it&#8217;s prepared so I hope the crop continues to produce.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The sewing machine, new patterns and fabric stash continue calling to me.\u00a0 As soon as I get the peas and okra whipped into submission, I plan to make some much-needed new clothes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; In my youth, I once heard a least favorite aunt claim I&#8217;d never be worth a hill of beans.\u00a0 That may very well be true but here&#8217;s proof I&#8217;m definitely worth a hill of peas!
