{"id":487,"date":"2011-06-04T14:30:29","date_gmt":"2011-06-04T19:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=487"},"modified":"2013-05-29T15:04:45","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:04:45","slug":"487","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=487","title":{"rendered":"Purple Hull Peas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_488\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 287px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/First-Purple-Hulls3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-488  \" title=\"First Purple Hulls\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/First-Purple-Hulls3.jpg\" width=\"287\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">First Purple Hull Peas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s another busy day in the ShirlSu household, begun with picking peas before the day&#8217;s heat became too intense.\u00a0 Yes, it&#8217;s a hot one today, predicted to be above 100\u00b0F!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I was only able to pick about 3&#8242; of the 52&#8242; row before my bucket was full.\u00a0 By the time I came inside for a bigger bucket and a cup of coffee, it was too hot to return to the garden.\u00a0 Bob and I will be back out this evening with BIG buckets for lots more peas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I immediately came inside and as I watched a little Anthony trial coverage on my computer, I shelled the peas.\u00a0 I think they&#8217;re beautiful, even in my old chipped homemade pottery colander (it&#8217;s my very favorite kitchen item).\u00a0 The peas are now blanched and in the freezer.\u00a0 Ya&#8217; can&#8217;t get much fresher than that!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After putting up some bread-n-butter pickle slices later today and picking peas this evening, I plan to settle with a movie tonight and shell more peas.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a chore I don&#8217;t mind doing, though it&#8217;s not near as fun as eating them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; It&#8217;s another busy day in the ShirlSu household, begun with picking peas before the day&#8217;s heat became too intense.\u00a0 Yes, it&#8217;s a hot one today, predicted to be above 100\u00b0F!
