{"id":423,"date":"2011-05-11T13:30:04","date_gmt":"2011-05-11T18:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=423"},"modified":"2013-05-29T15:05:42","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:05:42","slug":"garden-babies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=423","title":{"rendered":"Garden Babies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_424\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 297px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/garden-babies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-424 \" title=\"garden babies\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/garden-babies.jpg\" width=\"297\" height=\"476\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Garden Babies<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hot, breezy days are upon us and as long as I water the garden, it flourishes.\u00a0 Every other morning, I pick a quart or two of snow peas for dinner or the freezer.\u00a0 I can think of nothing that tastes better than fresh picked, organically grown veggies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Today, I picked the first pickling cucumber, rinsed it with the water hose and ate it for breakfast while it was still warm from the sun.\u00a0 It was so crispy and delicious.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As you can see in the pictures, we have lots of babies in the garden.\u00a0 In addition to yellow squash and tomatoes, we have lots of little cucumbers and bell peppers.\u00a0 The green onions, cowpeas, dill, cantaloupes, zucchini and okra continue to grow with the dill so healthy, the row looks like a deep green, feathery hedge.\u00a0 It&#8217;s beautiful.\u00a0 We still have room to plant more okra, cowpeas and watermelon and Bob will probably do some of that this evening as the winds calm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Besides picking snow peas and preparing them for eating or freezing, I&#8217;ve done little besides cook, help with the business phones and read.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve wanted to sit at the sewing machine and make a few things but the hours seem to slip away without time to sew.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve not done much stitching on the quilt either.\u00a0 I fear it will need to be dusted before I can get back to seriously quilting again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After several VERY busy weeks, I decided to get away for a few hours for Mothers&#8217; Day.\u00a0 Jake was out of town so no celebration was planned here at home.\u00a0 I went to Bedias, TX to visit my sister.\u00a0 We had a wonderful, laid back, restful visit I truly enjoyed.\u00a0 We hope to get together again soon.\u00a0 I look forward to it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My guys just announced we will celebrate Mothers&#8217; Day here tonight so they will prepare dinner.\u00a0 Yippee!\u00a0 Grilled ribeye steaks!\u00a0 After watering this evening, I think I&#8217;ll spend some time relaxing\/reading and postpone seed planting and weed pulling for another day.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Hot, breezy days are upon us and as long as I water the garden, it flourishes.\u00a0 Every other morning, I pick a quart or two of snow peas for dinner or the freezer.\u00a0 I can think of nothing that tastes better than fresh picked, organically grown veggies.
