{"id":396,"date":"2011-04-20T15:34:17","date_gmt":"2011-04-20T20:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=396"},"modified":"2013-05-29T15:06:14","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:06:14","slug":"first-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=396","title":{"rendered":"First Harvest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As of this morning, the garden work has begun to pay off.\u00a0 We have begun to reap what we have sown.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_411\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 306px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/2011FirstHarvest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-411  \" title=\"2011FirstHarvest\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/2011FirstHarvest.jpg\" width=\"306\" height=\"635\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">2011 First Harvest and Lunch<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The baby snow pea plants have grown, blossomed and produced these lovely pods which I harvested for our lunch.\u00a0 I find unending fascination with seeds, soil, water and sunshine! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Snow peas are always the first producers in our Texas garden and thankfully, we love them.\u00a0 They are so tender and delicious in a great number of dishes we enjoy.\u00a0 Today I decided I would steam them along with some shrimp and green onions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As I searched the refrigerator for the onions, I discovered a smidgen of raw spinach and a few mushrooms left from a recent salad.\u00a0 I added them to the steamer.\u00a0 The shrimp were rather large so I cut them into bite-sized morsels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After a very quick steaming, I topped each serving with a small pat of butter and a sprinkling of Kosher salt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">DEEEEEEELICIOUS!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I wish we had more for dinner tonight but in a day or two, I&#8217;ll be harvesting snow peas again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;ve managed to do a little quilting and some hand sewing this week.\u00a0 Our temperatures are getting so warm and we are postponing using the air conditioning as long as possible, it makes it a bit uncomfortable to wear a thimble and finger cots for long.\u00a0 I&#8217;m certain we&#8217;ll be turning on the air very soon as the temperatures continue to rise.\u00a0 Though the calendar still says it&#8217;s Spring, our temperatures insist it&#8217;s Summertime in Texas.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The area drought continues though we are in much better shape than most of our state.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve not experienced our usual Spring rains.\u00a0 I water the garden every day and the trees and grass continue to thrive.\u00a0 Most areas of Texas cannot say the same.\u00a0 I pray for them as I pray for rain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; As of this morning, the garden work has begun to pay off.\u00a0 We have begun to reap what we have sown.
