{"id":3837,"date":"2018-06-04T15:33:20","date_gmt":"2018-06-04T20:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3837"},"modified":"2018-06-04T15:36:48","modified_gmt":"2018-06-04T20:36:48","slug":"yep-its-been-a-while","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3837","title":{"rendered":"Yep, it&#8217;s been a while!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I realize it&#8217;s been a while since I last blogged.\u00a0 During that time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Socks-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3841\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Socks-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;ve actually written several partial posts without managing to finish.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll attempt to actually finish this one!<\/p>\n<p>As always, I&#8217;ve stayed busy doing this and that in addition to the normal chores of life.\u00a0 I simply can&#8217;t sit idle as I watch movies or listen to music.\u00a0 The hands must be busy!\u00a0 As winter turned to spring, I knitted a pair of sock for myself.\u00a0 This is a first!\u00a0 Before they were finished, it became too warm to wear them but I assume cold weather will return again.\u00a0 These socks were knitted with Knit Picks Felici yarn in colorway Captain Nemo.\u00a0 I used a slightly altered version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/shireen\">Shireen<\/a> pattern I&#8217;ve used in the past.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an easy knit.<\/p>\n<p>I also made some socks for a friend.\u00a0 Because his feet are narrow, I decided to make 2&#215;2 ribbed socks from cuff to toe (no <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Socks-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3842\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Socks-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"278\" \/><\/a>pattern).\u00a0 They will stretch to custom fit his feet.\u00a0 I used Lang Jawoll in a marl gray and red self striping (902.0059) yarn.\u00a0 The toes are made with Valley Huntington yarn in colorway Light Gray Heather.<\/p>\n<p>I am now officially burned out of knitting socks (for now).\u00a0 Time to make something else.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve begun knitting another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/sockhead-slouch-hat\">Sockhead Slouch Hat<\/a>.\u00a0 I knit over half of it but didn&#8217;t like how it was turning out so ripped it out and started again.\u00a0 I&#8217;m only a little over an inch into it so it will be a while before completion (if ever!).\u00a0 My heart just isn&#8217;t into knitting presently which I think is mostly influenced by hot weather&#8230; and boy, it&#8217;s HOT!<\/p>\n<p>Also lately, I gave some thought to rug making again.\u00a0 The last two were made from cutting up DH&#8217;s tshirts.\u00a0 I gave one to Jacob and kept one for myself.\u00a0 I really like it a lot!\u00a0 It made me think of making rugs using my own tshirt fabric.\u00a0 Because I make my own casual cotton knit shirts, I have a 25 year collection of leftover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/rug-052718.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3839\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/rug-052718.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>scraps.\u00a0 I dug them all out and was surprised to discover a small mountain of fabric.\u00a0 It&#8217;s definitely time to reduce the pile!<\/p>\n<p>I found some muslin to cut and warp the frame.\u00a0 I then dove into the cotton knit fabric and cut literally hundreds of strips for twining the rug.\u00a0 After two weeks, I had a lovely, snugly, absorbent rug.\u00a0 When I mentioned it to Jacob, he quickly hinted how much he would love to have another rug.\u00a0 Since I already have 3, this one will go to him.\u00a0 After all, that mountain of fabric has diminished very little.\u00a0 Upon finishing his, I immediately warped the frame again and began another.\u00a0 It&#8217;s currently over half finished.\u00a0 Sadly, the mountain is only dented so I hope to continue\u00a0making rugs.\u00a0 There is no shortage of places to put them or people who want them!<\/p>\n<p>My century+ old magnolia tree is in full bloom <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/magnolia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3838\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/magnolia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>and with this winter and spring rains, it&#8217;s absolutely loaded with blossoms.\u00a0 I go out each morning before dew has dried to smell the wonderful fragrance of their lemony perfume.\u00a0 When I can reach one, I bring it into the house to enjoy all day.\u00a0 So, so beautiful!<\/p>\n<p>Though I try and distract myself, this is the hardest time of the year for me as the two-year anniversary of DH&#8217;s death approaches.\u00a0 I think of him often and cry a few more tears.\u00a0 The house is just too damned empty and quiet!\u00a0 When I get too melancholy,\u00a0 I crank the lawnmower and work it out.\u00a0 There&#8217;s always grass to mow!<\/p>\n<p>Shirl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I realize it&#8217;s been a while since I last blogged.\u00a0 During that time, I&#8217;ve actually written several partial posts without managing to finish.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll attempt to actually finish this one!
