{"id":3775,"date":"2018-02-01T15:16:35","date_gmt":"2018-02-01T21:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3775"},"modified":"2018-02-01T15:16:35","modified_gmt":"2018-02-01T21:16:35","slug":"new-year-is-already-112-gone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3775","title":{"rendered":"New year is already 1\/12 gone!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/orange-seersucker-shirt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3777\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/orange-seersucker-shirt.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a>Throughout my life, I&#8217;ve always heard old people remark about how fast time passes.\u00a0 Now that I am older, I am amazed how true it is.\u00a0 It seems only yesterday was Christmas but the new year is already 1\/12 gone.\u00a0 As Joni Mitchell says, it&#8217;s time to &#8216;drag your feet to slow the circle down&#8217;.\u00a0 Life is certainly short!!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve continued sewing and knitting through this winter season though I&#8217;m not accomplishing a great deal.\u00a0 The last few weeks have been plagued with pain from a strained lower back and a foot injury which has slowed me down a bit.\u00a0 Cool weather seems to exacerbate the issue.\u00a0 Thankfully, I&#8217;m feeling better every day.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made another seersucker shirt for Jacob.\u00a0 This one is salmon and white striped and I included a matching print on the inside collar.\u00a0 (The color is more orange than the picture depicts.)\u00a0 As usual, the front pocket and back yoke are bias\/chevron cut and sewn.\u00a0 Also included are French seams so no raw edges are exposed inside the shirt.\u00a0 He likes it a lot and has added it into his shirt rotation.\u00a0 I have three more seersucker fabrics awaiting cutting and sewing before I consider retiring the concept.\u00a0 A closet filled with similar-textured shirts is enough!<\/p>\n<p>In the knitting scene, I have continued making socks but have nothing finished at present to show.\u00a0 I&#8217;m busy making replacement rainbow-colored socks for Stormy as the ones given for her birthday did not fit.\u00a0 The new ones are bolder colored and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Jake-black-n-grey-hat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3776\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Jake-black-n-grey-hat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a> a stretchier design.\u00a0 They should be finished this week.<\/p>\n<p>I finished and gifted a Sockhead hat for Jacob.\u00a0 This was made using Knit Picks Stroll Fingering yarn in &#8216;Train Station Tonal&#8217; colorway on size US 3 needles.\u00a0 I enlarged the pattern (making it 8 stitches wider) to fit his big head.\u00a0 He tried it on and was pleased with the fit.\u00a0 I hope he enjoys it!<\/p>\n<p>To add something new and fun to my knitting basket, I&#8217;ve assembled some progress markers using glass beads I made myself.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t gotten out the torch and made beads in a while but these were in my stash and after purchasing some jewelry findings, I had everything needed to assemble the markers.\u00a0 I use them to mark knitted stitches, rows, pattern changes or to show progress during any given time span.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve really enjoyed using<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/progress-stitch-markers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3778\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/progress-stitch-markers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a> them and am so glad I found a good purpose for the beads.
