{"id":3656,"date":"2017-08-03T19:22:52","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T00:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3656"},"modified":"2017-08-03T19:22:52","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T00:22:52","slug":"best-laid-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3656","title":{"rendered":"Best laid plans . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After knitting a few washcloths, I had intended<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/2-washcloths.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3657\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/2-washcloths.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a> to knit more socks with the two irresistible skeins of yarn I recently ordered and received.<\/p>\n<p>Then the phone rang&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>My neighbor (whose daughter is pregnant) called to inform me her daughter is expecting a girl and they wanted to give me as much notice as possible so I could make something nice.\u00a0 HUH?\u00a0 Who said I was planning to make ANYthing?\u00a0 Sheesh!<\/p>\n<p>Although the baby isn&#8217;t due until November, the shower is planned for mid-September.\u00a0 As the conversation continued, I got the feeling they were of the mindset I would happily make and give a complete layette.\u00a0 Uhhh, I barely know these people and only well enough to call them acquaintances!<\/p>\n<p>Since the nicest thing I am willing to make is a blanket,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Baby-blanket.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3659\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Baby-blanket.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a> I ordered the yarn and started the project.\u00a0 After knitting with fingering-weight yarn on size 0 needles, switching to worsted-weight yarn on size 10 needles has taken a bit of adjustment.\u00a0 (Feels like knitting heavy rope with baseball bats!)<\/p>\n<p>The photo shows 2 days into the project.\u00a0 Frankly, I&#8217;m less than enthused about the yarn and pattern but it is what it is.\u00a0 Though I&#8217;m getting little pleasure in making it, I won&#8217;t be ashamed to give it.\u00a0 Thankfully, it is nearing half finished.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking so forward to returning to making socks for recipients who are &#8216;knit worthy&#8217;!<\/p>\n<p>Shirl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After knitting a few washcloths, I had intended to knit more socks with the two irresistible skeins of yarn I recently ordered and received.
