{"id":329,"date":"2011-03-30T20:25:38","date_gmt":"2011-03-31T01:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=329"},"modified":"2013-05-29T15:06:51","modified_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:06:51","slug":"i-may-be-the-last","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=329","title":{"rendered":"I may be the last&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230;to acquire a bread machine but I doubt if anyone is more thrilled!<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_385\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 301px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/first-bread-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-385  \" title=\"first bread 1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/first-bread-1.jpg\" width=\"301\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">First Bread&#8230; SUCCESS!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upon receiving the machine from a friend, reading the instructions twice and reviewing all the included recipes, it was time for a run.\u00a0 I carefully measured all the ingredients and set the machine to automatically knead, rise, knead, rise and bake.\u00a0 The aroma was heavenly and the family took turns looking through the little window with a flashlight to check the progress.\u00a0 Yes, we are easily entertained.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Four hours later, we were slicing, buttering and wolfing down a wonderfully scrumptious loaf of bread.\u00a0 The loaf lasted about as long as it took to bake it.\u00a0 We loved it!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Since our first, I&#8217;ve now made many loaves and am comfortable concocting my own recipes.\u00a0 My favorites include Parmesan cheese with various herbs and spices.\u00a0 Very yummy indeed!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bob plans to make a big pot of spaghetti tomorrow and I&#8217;ll bake a loaf of &#8220;Italian&#8221; bread, with basil, oregano, garlic, and Parmesan cheese.\u00a0 I know it will be deeeelicious!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our weather has turned cool for the past few days so work in the garden has slowed.\u00a0 Seeds and baby plants prefer <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">warm<\/span> soil.\u00a0 We will see warmer temperatures by the weekend when I&#8217;ll resume planting tomatoes, bellpepper, cantaloupes and okra.\u00a0 The snowpeas continue to grow and the cowpeas (pinkeye purple hulls and Texas creams), dill, cucumbers and green onions have sprouted.\u00a0 I&#8217;m closely watching for the zucchini and yellow squash babies to break through the soil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The hardest work is almost done (tilling, rowing and planting).\u00a0 We&#8217;ll soon be kicked back, watching the miracle of growth, blossoms and produce.\u00a0 I love having the garden outside my office windows so I can closely monitor the progress.\u00a0 Then we&#8217;ll work through harvest, freezing and canning.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">My fingers are crossed in hopes of our usual bumper crop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shirl<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &#8230;to acquire a bread machine but I doubt if anyone is more thrilled!
