{"id":3011,"date":"2016-01-15T16:37:24","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T22:37:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3011"},"modified":"2016-01-15T16:37:48","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T22:37:48","slug":"3011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=3011","title":{"rendered":"Still learning&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;m preparing to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/WGC-beginning.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3012\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/WGC-beginning.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"448\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a>see my 65th year (horrors!), I&#8217;ve decided to prove I&#8217;m still young enough to learn a new trick.\u00a0 At this advancing age and with many finished quilts to my credit, I&#8217;m still curious to try different methods to achieve new results.\u00a0 Foundation paper piecing is my newest challenge.<\/p>\n<p>In the photo are the first triangle units (loosely laid out) of a foundation paper pieced &#8216;Wild Goose Chase&#8217; quilt top.\u00a0 This pattern and instructions are available online (pricey!!) but I was able to develop my own patterns (printed on used printer paper) and follow general instructions I found on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>The big benefit of foundation piecing is accuracy.\u00a0 It also offers the ability to assemble intricate designs including small slivers of fabric with total success.\u00a0 This first top is making me comfortable with the process before diving into something more intricate and detailed.\u00a0 Thus far, I&#8217;m loving it!<\/p>\n<p>We were delighted with a visit from Jacob last weekend.\u00a0 He was able to stay over to accompany DH on his Monday oncology appointment for the biopsy results.\u00a0 The news was not as good as we had hoped but not as bad as it could have been.\u00a0 We&#8217;re learning through this experience to pray for miracles and adjust to reality.\u00a0 We continue to be hopeful.<\/p>\n<p>Shirl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;m preparing to see my 65th year (horrors!), I&#8217;ve decided to prove I&#8217;m still young enough to learn a new trick.\u00a0 At this advancing age and with many finished quilts to my credit, I&#8217;m still curious to try different methods to achieve new results.\u00a0 Foundation paper piecing is my newest challenge.
