{"id":2681,"date":"2015-07-03T00:34:06","date_gmt":"2015-07-03T05:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=2681"},"modified":"2015-07-03T00:38:17","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T05:38:17","slug":"a-quilt-of-indecision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=2681","title":{"rendered":"A Quilt of Indecision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Though I&#8217;ve been crazy<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Split-16-finish.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2674\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Split-16-finish.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a> busy canning our garden&#8217;s bounty and tending to a sickly spouse, I&#8217;ve managed to add another finish to the list of recent accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>This is my Scrappy Split-16 quilt which was machine pieced starting in February, 2013.\u00a0 After piecing the body, I was baffled by what border I should use.\u00a0 I auditioned several, some pieced and some solid and was never really pleased with any of them.\u00a0 I settled on on a thin solid green frame, then two lighter green borders and finally a mottled green strip.\u00a0 Little did I know I would run into an equal dilemma deciding how to quilt them.<\/p>\n<p>I sped through quilting the body of the quilt, hoping for inspiration<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s-16-back-quilting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2675\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s-16-back-quilting.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"451\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a> for the borders.\u00a0 It never came so the partially quilted top languished in the frame for a while; for a time; for a LONG time.\u00a0 Still I remained uninspired.<\/p>\n<p>Upon noticing how dusty the quilt had become, I gave myself a sharp kick in the behind, gave the quilt a quick vacuuming and pulled out the stencils I have.\u00a0 I selected one that would fit in the space and marked the border for stitching.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t matter if it was or wasn&#8217;t the design of my dreams&#8230; it ended the nightmare of an unfinished quilt in the frame.<\/p>\n<p>I stitched and stitched the design until the quilt was done but because I had stitched my name, date and location when I first started, I had to change 2013 to 2015.\u00a0 Easy enough!<\/p>\n<p>When I removed the quilted top from the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s-16-front-quilting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2676\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/s-16-front-quilting.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"451\" height=\"314\" \/><\/a> frame, I asked DH how he thought it should be bound.\u00a0 He said I should piece a binding to match the scrappiness of the quilt body.\u00a0 Instead of thinking too much and stopping the process with my indecisiveness, I went with his suggestion.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not thrilled with every element of this quilt but done is better than perfect!\u00a0 I AM thrilled it is finished and am enjoying how pretty it looks on my bed.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what counts!<\/p>\n<p>Shirl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Though I&#8217;ve been crazy busy canning our garden&#8217;s bounty and tending to a sickly spouse, I&#8217;ve managed to add another finish to the list of recent accomplishments.
