{"id":2662,"date":"2015-06-22T11:44:55","date_gmt":"2015-06-22T16:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=2662"},"modified":"2015-07-31T15:18:18","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T20:18:18","slug":"stitching-during-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/?p=2662","title":{"rendered":"Stitching during harvest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As busy as I&#8217;ve been during recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wonky-Stars.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2642\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wonky-Stars.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"350\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a>days dealing with harvest, I&#8217;ve managed to devote a little time each night to hand quilting.<\/p>\n<p>Last week I finished Wonky Stars; a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter and found <a href=\"http:\/\/quiltville.blogspot.com\/2013\/05\/between-heaven-texasand-north-carolina.html\">here<\/a> on her Quiltville blog.\u00a0 My version has no sashings and a simple pieced border.<\/p>\n<p>The main body of this quilt was made using my stash 2\u00bd&#8221; squares with the star points coming from my tiny scraps bin.\u00a0 The border is pieces of 2\u00bd&#8221; strips.\u00a0 I also used Bonnie Hunter&#8217;s suggestion of using a narrow binding.\u00a0 I followed her <a href=\"http:\/\/quiltville.blogspot.com\/2015\/06\/narrower-binding-tutorial-re-cap.html\">easy tutorial<\/a>.\u00a0 I love the narrow binding and will incorporate it into future quilts.<\/p>\n<p>Wonky Stars was pieced on my Singer 301a machine (born the same year as me!) and hand quilted in a hoop.\u00a0 I outlined each star, stitching in the ditch and quilted each four patch grouping \u00bc&#8221; in from the outside seam.\u00a0 The border is quilted in a woven design from a stencil I made myself.\u00a0 I like the design and will use it again.\u00a0 The label is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wonky-Stars-label1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2645\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wonky-Stars-label1.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"350\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a>(obviously) hand embroidered on a scrap of fabric and attached to a back corner.<\/p>\n<p>This sofa quilt finished at 53\u00bd&#8221; x 65&#8243;.\u00a0 It will be stored until the next birth or illness calls for a gifted quilt.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Bonnie Hunter for a super fun quilt pattern.\u00a0 I truly enjoyed making it and smile each time I look at those twinkling stars!<\/p>\n<p>Shirl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As busy as I&#8217;ve been during recent days dealing with harvest, I&#8217;ve managed to devote a little time each night to hand quilting.
