String Pyramids (Bob&#8217;s Memorial Quilt)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/String-Pyramids.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2774\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/String-Pyramids.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"651\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>08\/15\/15:\u00a0 <\/strong>Inspired by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts (<a href=\"http:\/\/crazymomquilts.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/living-up-to-my-blog-name.html\">http:\/\/crazymomquilts.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/living-up-to-my-blog-name.html<\/a>), I began gathering scrap fabric strips, cutting equilateral triangles from waste printer paper and stitching string pyramids.\u00a0 The triangle units were stitched on my 1925 Frankenstein treadle (Singer\/National) sewing machine.\u00a0 The units are then hand stitched into rows.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping the top continues to grow into a sofa quilt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>08\/25\/15:\u00a0 <\/strong>Hmmm, I&#8217;ve created a dilemma.\u00a0 Though I absolutely love the process of making the pyramid units on the treadle machine and I even enjoy hand stitching them together, I&#8217;m not enthused with how it looks when assembled.\u00a0\u00a0 Because of the extensive number of seams, this will be a heavy quilt so it may become a dog bed cover.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll continue assembling in hopes I either begin liking it more or find a string quilt pattern I like better.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s how it looks today:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/string-pyramids1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2801\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shirlsu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/string-pyramids1.jpg\" alt=\"SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES\" width=\"650\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>09\/20\/15:\u00a0 <\/strong>Have taken a break from this top to work on others but to satisfy a craving to use the treadle machine, I put together 25 more string triangle units today.\u00a0 I&#8217;m liking the quilt a little more and suspect the feelings may grow.\u00a0 If this top becomes nothing else, I may make it into a poncho.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve recently purchased some Thermore batting for just such a project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12\/8\/15:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 After deciding to make this into a single bed sized top (with DH&#8217;s encouragement), I&#8217;ve picked up working on it again.\u00a0 Making the triangle units on the treadle machine is a true addiction but as the top continues to grow, an end is in sight.\u00a0 It currently measures 55&#8243; x 86&#8243;, leaving space for a plain border and lots of extra triangle units.\u00a0 Dog quilt?\u00a0 Potholders?\u00a0 I&#8217;ll add them to the ever-growing &#8216;Extras&#8217; container to possibly use at a later date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1\/5\/16:\u00a0 <\/strong>Added black triangles to straighten the edge, then a border of 2\u00bd&#8221; squares to completed the top.\u00a0 Not looking forward to basting so I&#8217;ve put it aside for a little while.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2\/12\/16:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pieced together backing, sandwiched and began basting.\u00a0 Still haven&#8217;t decided how it will be quilted but I NEED a hand stitching project.\u00a0 Considering either a straight line grid of some fashion or possibly a large Baptist fan design.\u00a0 Bob is leaning toward Baptist Fans.\u00a0 Regardless, it will be a challenge with all these seams.\u00a0 The more I look at this top, the more I like it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>6\/4\/16:\u00a0 <\/strong>Over half finished quilting big Baptist fan design.\u00a0 It is a challenge to quilt over all the seams but I&#8217;m doing my best and hang the rest!\u00a0 DH likes the quilt so I&#8217;m inspired to finish it for him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8\/30\/16:<\/strong>\u00a0 Though DH didn&#8217;t live long enough to enjoy using this quilt, I&#8217;ve continued to work on it.\u00a0 The hand quilting is finished.\u00a0 I plan to apply the binding over the next few days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9\/9\/16:\u00a0 <\/strong>Bob&#8217;s quilt is finished and washed.\u00a0 All that is left to do is make and apply a label.\u00a0 That task will be done shortly when the ordered supplies finally arrive.\u00a0 The finished quilt measures 92&#8243;
